Celebrating Valentine’s Week with Valerie

The CVM/IAS-CAFS Library conducted and offered a unique and bookish twist to celebrate both Hearts Month and VetMed Week with exciting activities for students from February 12th to 16th , 2024. Students who validated their IDs online received a valentine kit containing information about the various activities such as heart voting, the freedom wall, heart hunting, valentine raffles, Lib Birds 2024, and a film showing.

The first activity combined “Heart Voting” and the “Freedom Wall”. Many students voted for their favorite library resources and services (print collections, electronic resources, online services, computer services, and online platforms) by dropping their entries in designated heart boxes. In addition, the freedom wall was filled with the thoughts and messages of the students. “Heart Hunting”, another engaging activity, encouraged students to search and look for images of Valerie digitally hidden in the different areas of the library within the 20-minute time limit. Most students excitedly participated in order to have the chance to win book prizes. Those who found three to five Valerie faces received a memo pad as a consolation prize. Additionally, daily winners of Valentine raffles were randomly drawn by the librarians from a valentine-themed box.

The CVM/IAS CAFS-Library is thrilled that after three years, the 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬 event finally took wing and soared on the 15th of February 2024. The 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬 activity is not just about finding love but rather, it is about making new connections and exploring possible friendships. The activity offered students the opportunity to experience a blind date and meet new people. Even if no romantic connection was made, the participants were able to gain a valuable friend.

A film showing featuring the movie entitled “Hachiko” was also conducted. This popular cinematic masterpiece unfolds the true story of the faith, devotion, and undying love of a loyal dog to his master.  This movie shows a concrete example of love and animals, a double celebration of Valentines and VetMed Week, thus, an apt ending to the week-long celebration. Our thanks to the active participation and cooperation of everyone which made these activities a success!
